At T-Mobile, we have always valued the strong contribution that former members of the military can offer to our workforce. On this extended Veteran’s Day holiday weekend, I am reminded of the fact that men and women who have served their country with honor, dedication and incredible work ethic should not only be highly regarded but highly sought after and appreciated by forward-thinking organizations.
That’s a big reason why T-Mobile is committed to attracting and retaining members of this talented group of individuals. More than 1 million military service members will re-enter civilian life over the next five years, according to Monster.com®. From our partnerships with nonprofit and government organizations to our participation in military-specific recruiting events and employer programs, we are steadfast in our desire to bring veterans into our ranks.
While we certainly did not choose this path hoping for pats on the back, we are very pleased that our efforts have been recognized by folks who support or follow veterans and their causes. In fact, this week T-Mobile was named a 2013 Top 100 Military Friendly Employer® by G.I. Jobs. This marks the sixth year in a row the company has been included on the list, which is compiled from a survey sample of 5,000 companies whose annual revenues exceeded $500 million. A great side benefit of being on this list is that transitioning service members and spouses seeking civilian employment often use it to scout out companies they would like to work for, so we typically see a bump in interest from some great job candidates as a result.
Criteria for selection to the Top 100 Military Friendly Employer list included the strength of our military recruiting efforts, the percentage of our new hires with prior military service, retention programs, and our company policies on National Guard and Reserve service.
Each year, companies taking the survey, now in its 10th year, are held to a higher standard than the previous year via improved methodology, criteria and weightings. The survey results that determined the 2013 list were independently tested by Ernst & Young LLP based upon the weightings and methodology established by G.I. Jobs with the assistance of an advisory board of leaders in the military recruitment community.
T-Mobile was recognized for its support of military veterans and National Guard and Reserve members through its military program.
