Millions of T-Mobile customers are bingeing WAY more video than before Binge On launched less than 3 months ago
 
Un-carrier unveils new improvements, adds Amazon Video and other services that now stream without using up customers’ high-speed data and makes it even easier to manage Binge On settings 


Bellevue, Washington — January 28, 2016 — T-Mobile (NASDAQ: TMUS) today released new data about how its revolutionary Binge On video service is fundamentally changing the way millions of Un-carrier customers watch video. In less than three months since launch, T-Mobile customers on qualifying data plans are already watching more than twice the video than before from the free services with Binge On – those services that stream without eating up your high-speed data on T-Mobile.
 
On top of that, T-Mobile has added Amazon Video, Fox News, Univision NOW from Univision Communications Inc. (UCI) and WWE® Network to the growing list of services that stream without using your high-speed data on T-Mobile—now totaling more than 40 video streaming services, including Netflix, HBO Now, Hulu, SHOWTIME, Sling TV, STARZ, WatchESPN and many more. And, T-Mobile is making it even easier for customers to manage their Binge On settings with even fewer clicks on the web and in the T-Mobile app as well as with all-new short codes.

Changing the Way We Watch
The response to Binge On from the people using it, T-Mobile customers, has been staggering. Customers are watching more – a lot more – from all video services. T-Mobile today released new data about customers’ dramatically changing viewing habits:
  • Customers with limited high-speed data who qualify for free Binge On streaming are watching more than twice as many hours per day from free services than before. 
  • One major video service, included in the list of services that stream without eating up your data, is seeing a 79% jump in daily viewers.
  • Another major video service, not yet included in the Binge On list of free services, is seeing customers watch 33% more hours than before, thanks to Binge On optimization providing up to 3x more video from their data plan
  • Since launching Binge On, T-Mobile customers have streamed 34 petabytes for free.  That’s 34 million gigabytes – the equivalent of more than 109 million episodes of Game of Thrones at DVD quality (480p)!
 
And T-Mobile today released results of a new survey echoing those viewing trends. 92% of T-Mobile customers surveyed said they’ll watch more video with Binge On, and 93% said they like the idea of having all video optimized to DVD quality so they can watch 3x more using the same amount of high-speed data. And, interestingly, 69% of customers with the old carriers said they’d expect to have to pay extra for Binge On. Of course, at T-Mobile, Binge On is completely free to both customers and video providers.
 
Check & Change Your Settings More Easily
From the start, customers have been in control of Binge On. And, today, T-Mobile rolled out changes to make it even simpler to manage Binge On settings. New short codes let you instantly check or change your personal settings right from your smartphone’s dialer. Just dial #BNG# (#264#) and hit send to check your settings, #BOF# (#263#) to turn it off and #BON# (#266#) to turn on Binge On. So, when you’re ready to cast a movie to your TV (and aren’t on your home Wi-Fi), you can choose to quickly toggle Binge On off for big-screen resolution – and then flip it back on when you’re ready to stretch your LTE data farther.
 
T-Mobile has also streamlined access to Binge On settings with fewer clicks on MyT-Mobile.com and in a newly updated T-Mobile app. (The updated T-Mobile app starts rolling out today to a small group of Android customers, expanding to more over the next several weeks. The partners joining Binge On today bring a wealth of amazing content. Now, T-Mobile customers on qualifying plans with 3GB of high speed data or more can watch all they want, with a subscription to these services, without ever burning up their high-speed data.
